Local Finance Expert Shares Experiences with W.P. Carey Business Students

PHOENIX, Ariz. – March 6, 2012 – Arizona State University alumna, founder and managing member of FSW Funding, Robyn Barrett, will speak at her alma mater to a group of upcoming entrepreneurs for the second year in a row on March 27. Barrett will offer provide insight on the financial options available to help new companies go from start-up to growth to a group of students in a Venture Capital Experience course in the W.P. Carey School of Business.

“Small businesses are the backbone of America and better financial solutions are out there for entrepreneurs,” stated Barrett. “Sharing my knowledge and experience, I hope to empower these students with the knowledge they need to succeed as entrepreneurs.”

The Venture Capital Experience course is designed to teach students the details of the start-up funding process. Instructor Sidnee Peck exposes students to the history of venture capital and other types of capital, current and future anticipated trends, as well as the due diligence process as performed by investors. Guest speaker Barrett’s seminar will be held Tuesday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Barrett brings more than 20 years of finance business experience, including positions in accounting and management with The Dial Corporation and six years with the publicly traded commercial lender FINOVA Capital Corporation before launching her own company.

With the belief that the spirit of an entrepreneur can come from any background, Barrett is offering the FSW Funding Entrepreneurial Scholarship for the third year.

The $2000 scholarship is offer ed to all ASU students, including those in master’s degree programs. It was established to encourage and support young entrepreneurs as they make their way through their education. Submissions can be made online through the scholarship listings at or by emailing to request an application. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2012.
